Prospect Spotlight: Jimmy Glowenke

Jimmy Glowenke was a force in college as a hitter and on defense. He was a standout for 3 seasons at Dallas Baptist University, leading the San Francisco Giants  to pick him in the 2020 draft, round 2. The star infielder from Marcus High School (Flower Mound, Texas) will soon begin his first pro season, trying to prove that he has the stuff to make it.

Glowenke’s NCAA career spanned two full and one partial season with the Patriots of DBU. Over 139 games, his slash line is impressive: .340/.433/.506, with 179 hits, 111 runs, 17 home runs, and 100 RBI. Ten of his home runs came in his freshman year; he tapered off on the power in the following seasons, apparently concentrating on making contact and hitting line drives. Any way you look at it, this guy can hit.

He can field his position as well, as he was named the Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the year and freshman of the year in 2018. Along the way, Glowenke helped the Patriots to NCAA tournament appearances in 2018-2019, and the Conference Championship in 2019.

The Giants picked him up in 2020, after the pandemic-shortened college season and, of course, he wasn’t able to start his pro career that summer. This year, listed as the Giants #28 top prospect, he will probably find himself in the Arizona League (Rookie), with a chance to move up quickly to the Low-A San Jose Giants.
