Billy Bob’s Burgers – Killeen, Texas

When you want a burger and fries, there are many burger joints from which to choose. You can do fast food, you can do gourmet, or you can go the middle route. Most of us want to avoid the cheap, flavorless, quality suspect fast food joints, and at the other end, I for one don’t want to leave my wallet empty with a so-called gourmet hamburger. In Killeen, Texas, it’s not hard to figure out where to go.

If we want burgers that are every bit as good as the ‘gourmet’ stuff, but nowhere near the price, then we go to Billy Bob’s Burgers. There are two locations in Killeen: Stan Schlueter Loop, and on Liberty Street. We have only been to the Stan Schlueter Loop location as it is close to our house, but the fresh food guarantee applies no matter which store you visit. Billy Bob’s makes their burgers and fries fresh – in fact, they advertise that they “don’t even own a microwave.”

There is nothing fancy about Billy Bob’s – they have picnic style tables, fold up chairs, and paper towels for plates. It is proof that you don't need fancy surroundings to eat great food. The atmosphere is comfortable, and the food is great – what more do you need?

Well, how about live music?

Yes they do – on any given night, you might enjoy some local performer adding their talents to the surroundings. If you’re really lucky, you might be there when our old friend Steve Dykes is picking and singing (we just missed him the last time we ate there).

Billy Bob’s offers a nice variety of burgers and other sandwiches. They have anything from Pepper Poppers and Mozzarella sticks to Billy Chili cheese fries and homemade Billy Chili to the Texan, Quad or Jimbo, and the regular – a large cheeseburger, perfectly seasoned French fries and a drink.

Great food and great music – it doesn’t hardly get any better than that. Just sit back, enjoy the food, and listen to the music at Billy Bob’s – it’s a great way to spend an evening.
